Introduction to Western Riding

Jean first introduced the Western tack, pointing out the differences to English tack. After she'd shown how to tack up Caretta, she took her to the roundpen and "put her through her paces". After "clicking up" to a gentle jog and "kissing up" to lope on both reins, there was a sharp stop, (the ground was too dry to slide), and some of the lateral moves that Western horses are so good at.

Silk and Gypsy were also wearing Western saddles, and the "audience" were invited to have a go. No adults came forward, but all the children had a shot, some on all three ponies.

Afterwards, when the patient ponies had been turned out, Jean brought out the Lariat, which proved very popular
